A Sandy mother was pushing her two toddlers in a stroller when they were struck by a car on Tuesday morning, critically injuring one of the children.
Both of the children — a 3-year-old and 17-month-old — were later reported to be in stable condition but remained hospitalized Tuesday evening.
Brighton Peachey, 29, of Sandy, was in a crosswalk near 1850 E. Sego Lily Drive about 9:10 a.m. when she and her children were struck by a car going east, said Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen.
Nielsen said Peachey was walking in a designated crosswalk equipped with warning lights that were activated at the time of the collision.
All three were transported to Alta View Hospital. The younger of the children was then flown by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital. Peachey was released from the hospital Tuesday.
Nielsen said the driver, Virginia Larsen, 49, remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. He said the investigation is ongoing and declined to speculate on whether charges would be filed.
“We’re not sure what the circumstances that led up to this were,” Nielsen said.
