The Toni-yo-yo Run For Fun is an annual fundraiser for kids with developmental delays.
Specifically, the day of foot races and family activities raises money for Silver Creek Pre-School, a special place for kids with special needs. Children with physical and developmental challenges can get crucial services such as physio, occupational, speech and language, and music therapy at Silver Creek.
And their parents find community and support.
The Toni-yo-yo Run For Fun was organized by Andrea Sluga, whose son Antonio has blossomed at Silver Creek. Sluga’s objective is simple: Help another family facing the challenges of raising a special needs child.
This year, the Toni-yo-yo race, which took place in September in Etobicoke, had a goal of $10,000.
In the end, they raised $53,000 — with over 300 racers participating.
Said Sluga: “Everything raised will be used to support a family-in-need’s child to attend Silver Creek, as well as enhance the school’s amazing outdoor and camp program.”
The second annual Toni-yo-yo Run For Fun was the largest single fundraising effort in the 44 year history of Silver Creek. Support came from such local businesses as The Running Room, Legoland Vaughan Mills and Second Cup and from special guests “Kai” from Ninjago and ACE, the Blue Jays mascot.
